Glastonbury?
Apr. 11th, 2002 10:14 pmStrange how other peoples enthusiasm can sometimes rub off on you. Even though she probably can't get there herself, Val has pursuaded me that working at glastonbury to get in free is a Good Thing, and must be attempted. And assuming I'm successful in finding pepoe to go along with me there, thats where I'm likely to end up at the end of June. Muddy fields here we come!! Hurrah! Doseybat has already shown a very keen interest. Catt not suprisingly hates tents and things - not her thing. Still, I'm a bit apprehensive about it, but I'm already looking forward to it.
Plus I've never ever done glastonbury before. What's it like?

Date: 2002-04-11 03:23 pm (UTC)1) Make sure you have tents near people you know, and that you make sure the most unlikely combination of people end up in the same tent one night, and accuse them all of shagging each other.
2) Help point number one along a little by making sure you're pissed for most of your time there, or hungover so you can claim sympathy from the cute bird with the dreadlocks from the tent next door.
3) Upon returning from your festival of choice, conspiciously flaunt your entry armband thing. Under no circumstances remove it. This immediately seperates People You Know into three camps, of which you are in the most superior - People Who Didn't Go, People Who Went And Took Their Armband Off, and People Who Went And Are Clinging On To Their Armband Even If It Gives Them A Nasty Rash. Enter a competition with your mates about whose armband stays on longest, and a sub-league of who can contract the most interesting skin disease.
I think that's about all there is to it... and the mud. And the cows.

Date: 2002-04-11 03:47 pm (UTC)I've done other festivals before, and they vary a lot. Some a very civilize things (like sidmouth) others a complete nightmare and full of idiots (reading) and some where the food is odd and they don't sell cider (eurorock). I'm particularly looking for specific comments regarding Glastonbury. Mud and cows aside, I've heard its totally different.
And don't worry, I already know about the communal mixed showers thing.

Date: 2002-04-12 01:35 am (UTC)It's fun. Even with the tents (I'm not a camping enthusiast). Also, I hear Rod Stewart is playing this year, but I hope it's just a scary rumour. *crosses fingers*

Date: 2002-04-12 07:29 am (UTC)If you want to know what you might be in for on the 'working there' front, check out the webpage here. True its the 2000 website, but they're not very up to date. The application forms on there are incorrect, but the address is still correct and thats where you write to to ask to work there. ASAP if you want to get a decent shift. Pre-glastonbury shift is apparently the best as (1) You don't miss any bands that way. (2) Theres not much litter to pick up!
Drop me an email if you're seriously interested in joining me there.
