The Serbian Leader has just been shot dead. And the world is on the brink of war. Don't people learn?

yes, last time it was the heir to the throne of the Austor-Hungarian empire and it was in what is now Bosnia. However you can say the Arch Duke was assainated over the isuse of who controlled the Balkans, which may or may not have something to do with todays events.

The big differnce though is that in terms of the world stage this si not a major plot.

There are some similarities though:

First world war several major powers playing off against each other (France, Britian, Russia, Germany, Austo Hungary, Ottoman Empire)
Security Council Five powers playing off each other.

Africe: Germany wanted an Empire there, Britian and France controlled it.
Now the US and France squabble to control the votes of Africa (though admittedly with money rather then invading).

Europe: Two diffeent views of how the continet should organise. France Britain on one hand, Germany Austro Hunagry on the other.
Now UK and Spain taking one direction Franc egermany another.

Flash point: Then Balkans with evryone having vested intersts in particular Russia and Austris Hungry.
Now the Middle East mainly France and the US.
Note both were imprtant in there time.

I could go on because there are a large number of similarities, but the last one was it got to the point that war had to happen all that was needed was the flash to start (the assination), has that point occured again?

Some times the weight of the world is so much so that the people being weighed down by its issues dont see the issues anymore because they are so busy in the thick of them.

And so no, people just dont learn.
