Thanks for the hugs and tea! I've been horribly horribly ill for the last week due to evil glastonbury FEVER. Am back at work now so things are looking good! :)

Well I only just made it back safely. I got struct down with a terrible illness for most of the last week, something to do with shivering in driving rain for several hours, standing in mud. I'm counting myself lucky I didn't get trenchfoot!

Gosh! Where to start? I saw very few bands, although did catch a few I wanted to see (The Who, Bjork, Pipettes, Water Boys, and caught fractions of the sets of many others!) but what I saw was good. But it's the magical other strangenesses that make Glastonbury wonderful, even when it's all mud. Cafes serving hot spicy chai with lovely velvet seating! Random tipis with strange antiquarian societies trying to initiate you into srange cults! Fire breathing steam-punk robots! Aliens sprinking cosmic dust and welcoming visitors into their crashed spacecraft! Fake 70s gaybar handing out false moustaches at the entrance! Sexy lesbian fire-juggling performers! Speed chainsaw carving competitions! The human jukebox caravan! One-man starwars! Oh, and Bill Bailey calling us all mud-monkeys!

Gah, my first *ever* Glasto was a complete mudbath (1998). And I still went back for more! :) You've had it eaaaaaaasy mate :)

*nods* Had it very lucky before, didn't I? Still at least this was an experience. And still overall very enjoyable.

But the owner said he'd thought hard about it and it wasn't going to be a problem... I take it he didn't think quite hard enough?

They'd improved the drainage at the site hugely. I hate to think what the flooding would have been like if not. But however good your drainage is, if there's non-stop heavy rain for a day and hundreds of thousands of people stomping around, then a mudbath is inevitable. They could do nothing to stop this. Still it was alarming to have rivers of mud flowing down paths, and huge moats around some tents.

Hot bath and tea is exactly the first thing I did when I got home! Didn't stop me getting horribly ill for all of last week. Got hypothermia from shivering in cold heavy rain for several hours in a queue to get out, standing with my feet deep in liquified mud. Carrying all my heavy stuff, trying to stop it getting muddy. They had people handing out warm blankets and waterproofs. Felt a bit like a refugee camp! Erk!

Have recovered now, and very glad I went overall. Was worth it!

No no, actually that was my third Glasto. I went in 2002 and 2003 and the sun shone warm and hot and the rain vanished and all was very magical indeed.

This was my first mudbath Glasto. A whole different world. Still magical in places, but it takes the edge off it!

I'm very glad I wasn't working at Glasto! Previous times I've worked as a litter picker. That would have been pure hell this year.
