Just got home to find the Kitchen has burnt down.

Everyone and everything here is safe (and more importantly, is still pretty), except the cooker which was destroyed and the kitchen, which needs lots of cleaning.

Spontaneous Appliance Combustion? Sounds like a fault with the cooker. Lucky no-one was hurt and nothing was damaged that can't be replaced!

Did you come home to fire engines, or had it put itself out with no-one in attendance?

Ah, just seen wingedharlequin's post. Whoopsie! Still, no lasting harm done, from the sounds of things. Apart from the soot and cleaning up, of course.

Is the cooker really dead though? I've set cookers on fire like that myself in the past; they usually worked fine after I'd scrubbed them clean....
