Who Should You Vote For?

Who should I vote for?

Your expected outcome:

Liberal Democrat

Your actual outcome:

Labour -6
Conservative -46
Liberal Democrat 48
UK Independence Party -35
Green 38

You should vote: Liberal Democrat

The LibDems take a strong stand against tax cuts and a strong one in favour of public services: they would make long-term residential care for the elderly free across the UK, and scrap university tuition fees. They are in favour of a ban on smoking in public places, but would relax laws on cannabis. They propose to change vehicle taxation to be based on usage rather than ownership.

Take the test at Who Should You Vote For

Am going to urge everyone to take the above test. The results should be interesting, I think. Can anyone prove it biased? *curious*

the questions are phrased in such a way that the left-wing response seems more reasonable. Also, the choice of which manifesto points to address shows evidence of bias.

In my case I've been shunted rightwards into the LDP box.

Which questions in particular are you thinking of? They all seem pretty straight-talking to me. Maybe "Money that would otherwise be spent on public services should be spent on tax cuts"? A true Tory should really agree with that, even though the Tory policy explicitly only talks about cutting bureaucracy.

The phrasing skirts away from the obvious fact that the 'money' in question is of course tax revenue, and therefore it is a question of taking less from the taxpayer rather than of gifting them with this mysterious money that it is implied somehow 'belongs' to the government.

You could just as well ask 'Are you willing to give an increasing proportion of your income to the government (and the EU)' and get very different answers. ;)

Yes - the Tories under Howard are virtually as statist as the current regime. UKIP, on the other hand, have been making some interesting minarchist / classical liberal / free market noises of late.
