Academia made easy
Nov. 23rd, 2004 10:06 amOh my. This is very shiny. I wish it had existed when I was doing my PhD, it would have made everything so much easier. So, being egotistical, I couldn’t resist doing a search for Snellgrove. And go me, for I am there at 2 and 3, above my great uncle david’s tibetan books at 5 and 6. Yay! Sadly the profound writings on Hormonal Sex Manipulation in Catfish, and Fungal Symbiont in Leeks are nothing to do with my family, alas.

Date: 2004-11-23 02:19 am (UTC)Wheee!
I'm currently attempting a cryptanalytic (i.e. sneaky maths rather than brute force) attack on MD5. Which is being rather fun! I like my job sometimes.
I don't suppose your good self and/or Catt will be around Leytonstone tonight, would you? I'm going away at the weekend so I should probably pick up my rucksack, but Bat was saying that it would be nice to see either/both of you (which I'd like lots too), and since we're going to be meeting up in Leytonstone anyway... *small hopeful smile*?

Date: 2004-11-23 02:24 am (UTC)Theres a wonder on Kirlian Photography on page 5. But that is just odd in itself, and doesn't have quite such a silly name.

Date: 2004-11-23 02:28 am (UTC)It has all my papers, and even some conference and poster submissions of mine, but fails to find my actual thesis, which *is* online. Grrrrr.
I'll be in Cambridge this evening - actually I'd been hoping to drag you to the Calling, but never mind. I think Catt will be around, but you'll have to check with her.
Where you going at the weekend? Anywhere exciting? :)

Date: 2004-11-23 02:47 am (UTC)If the weather is bad, I'll probably leave my car in Newcastle and take the train, then probably go back by train to pick it up after the workshop. It would give me a good excuse for an extra night in Newcastle, if nothing else! :-)

Date: 2004-11-23 02:51 am (UTC)But yes, the real thing. Kirlian photography -- I've wanted to try it ever since reading about it back in the 1970s. It sounded a bit dangerous, though, so I never quite got it together to put the necessary bits and pieces in place. The photographic paper/film would be easy enough to handle and process, but I wasn't very keen on putting hefty (as in, presumably, ionising, or it wouldn't affect the film) amounts of RF into a metal plate anywhere near me.

Date: 2004-11-23 08:36 am (UTC)There are so many Comptons that I had to search for my father using his initials as well, but once I did that it wasn't hard to find him (http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&lr=&q=%22AJ+Compton%22&btnG=Search). *smiles*
(He's the medical electronics rather than the paediactrics *g*)
