Knee recovering well

Wonderful doseybat put a bandage-type thing on my knee yesterday which steadied it and helped a lot, since then the pain reduced to a dull ache when I moved it - a day of rest and massaging my knee seemed to do it well, and by yesterday evening I was limping around the house which not too much difficulty.
Today it seems even better, and while I can still feel something up with it, it's only a minor irritation and I can almost walk normally with the bandage on. I braved the journey into work, and here I am. Hooray! *hugs* to all those who offered support.

Clearing out my old inbox, which i check very infrequently, I find this:

Glad your feeling better. I just thought you were taking a break socially when you were sat on your own, then later when you were playing cards I thought you were happy. |Didn't really think to notice youd not actually moved.

Dunno what to do with the paper as have never been too into academia, but good luck with whatever you decide.

They plied me with alchohol to numb the pin so I couldm ove around later without noticing it so much. This wasn't a good idea in the end. :/

Nope doesn't sound like it, but on the other hand they had to do something rather than leave you out alone on the roof all night.

For the paper, I think there's one important question to ask yourself - how mcuh free time do you have?

If you can't spare the time, just tell them so politely. I'm sure they'll be fine with it.

Although they may bug you again next year about another paper. ;-)

However, if the paper is on something you are interested in, then you may as well referee it, surely?

Not sure I have the free time - and I don't think I'd get anything for it, so I'm likely to refuse. As I've not yet seen the paper, I can't really decide - or do I only get to see the paper if I agree to do it (which would be very silly)?

Ask to see the paper, so you can tell them whether it is close enough to your own work for it to be reasonable for you to act as a reviewer. Then make your mind up, and either say no, sorry, no time, or yes. :)

As to the refereeing, it depends on whether you think you have the time or the inclination; if you do, but are unsure of how to go about it, ask the journal if they have specific guidelines for referees - many if not most do.

Erk - yes I read that - I didn't think it was that bad, but as long as it gets done by Wednesday I'll have time to wash clothes and myself before disappearing to Trowbridge on Thuraday! :)

inskuldrak managed to wash clothes without the boiler. According to timeplease washing machines boil their own water. If this is true then you can do your washing anyway.

They heat their own water.

Ours is only plumbed into the cold tap.

Indeed so. Even the washers that have two inputs can usually be plumbed just into cold, it just means that they take slightly longer to run and use more power.

(Amazing what you learn after a few years of living so far from civilisation that you end up doing your own plumbing because no one can be arsed to drive out to do the work)
