Every morning it's a tragedy. Every day.

It's about 9AM. The long shiny train pulls out of Waterloo station, bound for lovely places in foreign lands. It's like a dream. Except I'm not on it. I'm watching with despair and envy from the other train that departs at the same time. My train is less shiny, not as long and I get off at Wimbledon, which is a nice place, but not as nice as the places the shiny train goes to. I want to be on the other train, the one that calls itself a Eurostar. It's taunting me. Every day. Waaaaah. Mooop. Strop.

BUT...

On February 12th I'll be on the shiny train. For plans have changed again, and I'm going to Bruges after all for my birthday. Yaaaaaaaaaay! Mmmmm. should be fab. Am going with [livejournal.com profile] snow_leopard and [livejournal.com profile] emarkienna.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! :)

A plan is also evolving involving [livejournal.com profile] snow_leopard and myself flooping over to Helsinki in early may and seeing the wonders of nokialand. Hopefully [livejournal.com profile] alektoeumenides will have lots of holiday time then, and I'll be able to meet up with her in pretty St Petersburg and she can show me the delights of that city, and then I'm very tempted to fit in a trip to Tallinn while I'm in that part of the world. Am very excited! *bounce*

And I can buy myself my very own MINIMOOSE! :)

Oh and the nice [livejournal.com profile] daevas is going to be sending me CD full of piccies of Persepolis, as I'm very tempted to plan an expedition to Iran. Woooooooooo. More excitement.

Yay!

Cooel. Make sure you hit St Petes at the beginning of May - 1st to the 4th - as those are the days I can definately be there.

Helsinki: nice place, but can't remember finding a great deal to _do_. Just hang out and enjoy it: last post of civilisation :)

St Petes: Hermitage, Russian Museum, Pavlosk if it's nice weather, the Idiot Cafe, Apransky Dvor, Petrograd side and general wandering and chilling out.

Tallinn: erm...pretty but dull. Cheaper (slightly) to get to St Petes that way plus the Embassy is dead nice if you decide to get your visa en route rather than in advance. Goto lots of cafes and marvel at the cinemas where they don't DUB films.

Helsinki = seconded.

St Petes: all of the above, plus Peterhoff - old palace grounds, full of delightful water follies. And maybe the Kunstkamera - if pickled two-headed foetuses are your kind of thing?
