Overheard the neighbours while in the kitchen this morning:

`I want a pair of big goth boots!!'

On hearing this, I looked outside and saw the teenage girl nextdoor in full babygoth outfit. Her mum was taking photos of her in the back garden with a polaroid camera to treasure the moment of this sudden babygoth transformation. I was in fits of giggles. But she was right, she did need the boots to go with it - i considered offering some of mine, but i doubt she was a size 8. I wonder if she was inspired by living next door to us? Does gothness spread like a domino effect?

And now some astronomy news - Tomorrow morning, at 10:51AM, Mars will be the closest it's been to Earth for the past 60,000 years. This means that tonight it's going to be the brightest its been in that time. Not a moment to miss, surely? So please, everyone, take a few minutes to go outside late this evening, and look for the red planet, low in the south/southeast sky. It may not be spectacular, but to say it's a once-in-a-lifetime event is a little bit of an understatement.

Of course if anyone can get me access to a telescope, it'd be fab, but i suspect that would be too much to hope for (this is london, theres usually not much to see in the sky at night!).
