[livejournal.com profile] snow_leopard is herding people to attend a Medieval Banquet in London on 12 July, which promises to be fab. It'll be even better is more of my friends turn up too, so if any of you are interested, post a comment on the post here (more info here too) and tell us you want to come along. It'll probably be booked this weekend, so please decide soon. Yay! :)

Hmmm, might be interested if it's real medieval food (which I'm not convinced of by the website, which doth not bewitch mine ears with delight). Being entertained by Henry VIII would be fun only if he does beheading.

As long as you are referring to the medieval banquet, not the wedding mentioned above...

Ah, found them now (the pop-ups popped up in an odd place). Hmm, yes. Part of me is going 'hmmm... no.' and part of me is going 'must... subvert'.

No, it's not real medieval food (or even anything like it - barbeque sauce was mentioned) or authentic medieval costumes or even authentic medieval people (by the time of Henry, we're definitely early modern.) In one sense I really like that sort of thing (insert relevant Death quote here) and in another I find it absolutely excruciating (ditto relevant Hob quote.)

I'm probably grown up enough now not to be obnoxious, but would I enjoy it? I'd be awfully tempted to dress as authentically as possible and mug up on speech patterns and pretend to be a time-traveller and see whether I could freak them out. Mbuh. That's being obnoxious, isn't it?

I don't know. Should I?

It's also just a couple of days before I start playing Puck, so what if I'm needed for emergency rehearsals?

Blah. Will let you know.

Perhaps I should hold my own medieval banquet. I know quite a few authentic recipes, but I'd probably have to team up with someone who can cook meat to make an authentic overall meal...

Not sure about the vegetarian thing - some medieval people were very strict about fasting on Fridays, and fish wouldn't always be available (and I *think* not considered fast food(!) by all.) And there would be some vegetarian dishes in most meals, so you could make a veggie banquet in which each individual dish was authentic even if the overall effect wasn't.

When I'm a Kentwell alchemist I say I'm experimenting with following the dietary regime of Pythagoras and excitedly draw triangles all over the place.
