Sometimes things just feel right
Mar. 20th, 2003 11:40 pmYay! That was energizing. Very refreshing, and like a blast of fresh air into my currently stagnating life.
Was in two minds about going, but finally decided I had to go to parliament square this afternoon, just to see history in the making, if nothing else. Full of people, all the roads around closed off. People very friendly, full of energy and confidence and optimism, despite the war having started - people here still have *hope* - it's a joy to see that, people want peace. Speeches and chanting to vent off the anger, and make a point to parliament. Found the pretty thing there, and also found Phil and Kelly, so we went around as 'Goths against the war', singing silly chants. The atmosphere was electric - it was like anything could happen - it felt good and *alive* - like maybe we *could* stop the war. We joined a huge march heading towards Victoria - got trapped by riot police on a road before getting very far. Totally surrounded by police - although it was all very peaceful and friendly, they were just containing us. Eventually police let us go back to parliament square. People sitting around fires, swinging flaming poi in the darkness, people playing music, dancing, singing, having fun, a makeshift festival happening right on the doorstep of parliament. Think they are going for an all night vigil.
