Last weekend : Two Towers Party
Jan. 26th, 2003 10:38 pmWe met at Reading Station at some unfeasible hour of the morning (Ok, it was 11am, but I'd had to get up at some unfeasible hour to get there by then). After some alarmingly silly conversation (I'd forgotten quite how surreal conversations between me and
gnimmel can get sometime), we ended up at the Cinema, where we met everyone else. For reasons probably only known to himself,
andrew_wyld was wearing a Jareth wig, and looked convincingly like Bowie, but decided to claim he was Legolas, which was obviously not true. We watched the film, and although it grew on me, and a few things made slightly more sense to me than they did since the first watching, I've come to the conclusion I liked the first film better. It was still *very* good, and I wouldn't say no to seeing it again sometime.
We then had to find our way to the party, which was not in Reading. In fact, it was in the middle of nowhere, vaguely near Thatcham.
evil_nick was very nice and decided he would ferry people from the station. Hooray! So we finally arrived at
mirabehn and
evil_nick's homely little cottage. Very pretty place, I must admit to being a bit jealous - (I'd like to live somewhere like that!) and it was very old, very wonky, very low-ceilinged with wooden beams and doors and metal latches. Reminiscent of my old Cambridge room, except this was a whole cottage. It had of course been themed especially for the party - so various room had different music and there was much art and banners and posters hung around the place, and it was dead impressive. Yay! There were even faces in the dead marshes (the bathtub).
I got changed into my Arwen costume, which surprised everyone I think.
ixwin supplied some elf ears at some point and
mirabehn supplied pretty jewellery (thank you!). Other peoples consumes were *far* more impressive.
kmazzy was there as a Nazgul in by far the best costume, I wish I could sew things like that!! *impressednoises*.
mirabehn was an exceedingly cute frodo,
evil_nick was Eomer, complete with armour. Much admiration to Matt, who was wearing a fantastic Galdalf outfit, which at some point in the evening metamorphosised into Julius Caesar.
the_alchemist was a very pretty Eowyn, with a real metal sword!!! Hooray!!!
gnimmel had covered herself in ivy and was an ent-wife. There were a few dressed as hobbits of which
purplepiano went as Merry,
ixwin went as a female hobbit,
angelislington as a 21st century pippin. Umm....I think I've got all the costumed people....
It was nice also to see a few people I'd not seen in *ages* - like
yvesilena, although sadly
casby was ill and unable to appear. Becca turned up to the party briefly. And I met a lot of new and exciting people - Finally getting to meet
evil_nick (fab fab amazing guy), and also meeting
angelislington (the walking tolkien encyclopaedia),
kmazzy (who appears to have a weakness for cute things), Naomi (who wants to take over the world), Rhiannon (who ...er...was very quiet and shy....).
Much hilarity was had posing in costumes for the cameras - and then we played party games. Pass the Parcel - but with the added twist of a certificates every layer with amusing questions on. By some stroke of luck, I won this game and ended up with a book The magical worlds of the Lord of the Rings which I'veread now and it's fab - full of interesting and sometimes slightly obscure facts about Tolkien and Middle Earth.
Pin the tail on Shadowfax got played late on, I think most people were a bit too tipsy by then given by the quality of play....*giggle*. Someone had baked a chocolate Isengard cake, which we flooded with blue icing, and then ate. Yumyum.
Then it got a bit late, so most of us crashed overnight in sleeping bags.
The next day, those of us remaining drank stupendous quantities of yummy tea, and had a game of Balderdash, which
mirabehn won. And then it was back to London.
