Hooray! That was fun! :)

[livejournal.com profile] davefish arrived this afternoon from Cambridge bearing a huge pizza and presents, which should happen more often, as it was good. [livejournal.com profile] emomisy also appeared, also bearing presents, and that was good too, and even better we persuaded [livejournal.com profile] emomisy that he wanted the spare NMA ticket. Hooray! :)

So we headed to Kentish town, where we met Verity, had a quick drink at the pub, and went to the Forum. It's a huge venue, and I quickly lost Verity, but managed to find [livejournal.com profile] damerell, [livejournal.com profile] fluffymormegil and [livejournal.com profile] erming. Owen and Clare were also there, and also [livejournal.com profile] incy and i'm sure I saw a few other familiar faces in the crowd. The support band were amusing and actually quite good (and the first time i've seen a support band at an NMA gig....*bemused*). When NMA appeared, I zoomed to be near the front and got squished, so headed back to a safe (but still nicely close) distance, where I spent most of the time bouncing around and found Verity again. It was a fantastic set, with a few surprises. Most importantly, it was fun.

The support band were Airhammer, and I'm listening to the free CD they were giving away ("I hate Airhammer"), as I type. A very odd band, but rather good. I was thinking about how to describe them - I decided that they're a 3-piece lo-fi skinhead Pixies (fronted by John Hegley's disturbed younger brother) covering Violent Femmes songs.

the first time i've seen a support band at an NMA gig...

The one that springs to mind was the Levellers, but that was a while ago.

The Airhammer website seems devoid of anything... apparently as I don't have the Java plugin installed...
I enjoyed them, although I am not sure how to describe them either...
