Blackberry picking
Yay! Nice Evening. After work I set off to Leytonstone, to the open ground around the Hollow Pond boating lake. Officially it's a bit of Epping Forest, and there is a reasonable amount of nice woodland around to just about justify that. Theres also the boating lake of course, which is very pretty on a nice-not-too-hot evening like today, to just flop there, and it's very peaceful and doesn't feel like London, and it's all open and pleasant, and theres water and trees and it's actually bright and airy. A charming little enclave. There are also many blackberry bushes, and as it's the start of blackberry picking season, this was my main reason for going there. The blackberries proved to be truly ripe and delicious, and nobody else seems to have found them yet, so the bushes were full of very large juicy berries, and I probably made quite a pig of myself gorging on them, as they were truly marvellous. I ended up with purple fingers, and a sweet taste in my mouth. Yay! :)
There are many more berries still, so I can see myself going there again in the near future. Maybe i'll take a container and pick *lots* and bring them home. That would be nice.

I love the fact that they always taste different in different places because they are all different species... Weird and wonderful.
You get gorgeous smokey end-of-season ones in Ardnamurchan. And actually Hertfordshire's not bad for them either... I think the ones round here (Berkshire) are going to emerge rather late, but they are all in situ (ie in our driveway), as are the cooking apples... Muhahaha...

Someday, you know, I may well do that.
