White Nights

What lovely writings. What power of words. Some things mean a lot to a dreamer like me, and the power of just a few words can send me into a blissful state of euphoria.

alektoeumenides suggested I should read 'White Nights' by Dostoyevsky. And I can find a lot of my life in bits of that story - maybe thats why I can relate to it so well? The brief moments of romance, the shyness, but open frankness about desires, hopes, losses and fears. This is how I love people. And theres some paragraphs that maybe just hit a bit *too* close to home:

"I swear to you that if I am ever in a position to marry, you shall make my happiness. I assure you that now you are the only one who could make me happy. Listen I am going to Moscow and shall be there just a year; I hope to establish my position. When I come back, if you still love me, I swear that we will be happy. Now it is impossible, I am not able, I have not the right to promise anything. Well, I repeat, if it is not within a year it will be some time; that is, of course, if you do not prefer anyone else, for I cannot and dare not bind you by any sort of promise."

Indeed. Quite. Maybe not correct in all details, but alarmingly close. And it's not the only bit.

And.....I don't know how it ends!!! *suspense*. The *only* online translation I can find is here and has the end missing! I'm not going to be able to sleep until I know the outcome of these romantic encounters......does Nashtenka fall in love? Does her lover return to her? What happens???? Eeeeeep!

I'm glad you loved it so much. You'll be getting the ending too. A very special copy at that. It'll be all explained when you get it. I hope you're not dissapointed when you read it.

Yaaaaaay! This princess had been twisting in knots trying to get hold of the ending. You're far far too nice to me, but doing these things to me - but i'm not complaining. :) I've loved the story so far.....whatever the outcome (although it's *got* to be a sad ending in a way, it's the only thing that would fit and make the story work i think) the words will be lovely. Awwwwwwwwwwww.
