Edit: Don't believe all those tales of transport woe. No delays at all from Leytonstone to Wimbledon. I've just done the journey in 45 minutes, which I think is a record for me, as it normally takes an hour. *shocked*

I have my proper snow-boots on today! Fur-lined and waterproof with lots and lots of grip. So my feet are lovely and warm, and would be even if it was -20 outside! They're also vegan, but not sure that helps with the snow.

You can't do that! I need them or my feet will turb blue and drop off! Much as I love snow I don't like cold!

I like playing in the snow, but only if there's a warm place nearby that I can retreat to once it gets too cold. I think it's pretty and great, so long as I'm not having to trudge through it.

But the secret is to just wear lots of warm clothes so you're warm outside too! Then you can be warm *and* play in the snow! :)

I'd love to go outside and have a snowball fight. Unfortunately, I have to work.

National rail was fsck'd this morning. I was at the station for a train at 06:49. That station had cancelled all trains until at least 07:30, and even that was looking dicey. I went over to another station (two stations, on completely different lines - handy sometimes!) and although trains were running, they were severly delayed. I eventually got a train to Blackfriars at about quarter to seven, making me almost an hour late.

Lucky I was aiming to get in early today then, wasn't it?

We have balconys at work to go outside on, and they're covered in snow! Hooray! :)

I'd heard tales of woe at Waterloo station, but trains leaving there were ok when I got there. At least, the train I was on was speeding along just fine!

I snapped a few photos on the way in to work, but whereas we've got at least an inch in Beckenham the City appears to have gotten more like a centimeter. Curse its micro-climate! :-(

What with all the tall buildings the snow's just got a bigger surface area to cover. Either that or all those offices leaving their heating on all night! Silly city!

It's the latter - buildings remaining heated during the night.

Even if the heating is off, you've also got all those server rooms, which are being kept cool. All the heat that's being exchanged there mounts up. Plus there's heat leaking from buildings, heat from cars and buses being in higher concentrations, and so on.

Basically, the city - that's the whole of central London, not just The City - is about one to two degrees warmer than the surrounding suburbs. (And the suburbs themselves are a degree or so warmer than teh surrounding countryside, as I understand it.)

Microclimates like this are fascinating stuff. :-)

I'm aware of London's unique microclimate, which is why I'm always VERY shocked when I see snow in London. Especially when some regions just outside London have had no snow. That's very unusual.

This seems to be what lots of people say on their way to work. Or rather, people in my way on my way to work. Grrr! It took me 20 minutes just to get out of Datchet this morning. After that it was fine but by then the snow had gone so people no longer had an excuse.
