We had this VERY DISCUSSION in the flat about an hour ago, and I still do not understand why sprouts are a "Christmas thing". SERIOUSLY. WHAT.

But they just murdered a perfectly good Tears For Fears song in the process! ;)

I am one of life's freaks, alas, as I rather like them. Possibly because I was brainwashed as a child into seeing them as cute 'baby cabbages'... :/

EeeesparklyChristmas!!! :)

The prob with sprouts is that they are really hard to cook well. They are apsolutely delicious if you cook them for exactly the wrong amount of micro seconds.

I spent the day surrounded by country people who eat sprouts. A LOT of sprouts. At times the air had a distinct yellow haze of sulphur.

As for the necessary laxative qualities of sprouts: given the choice I'd rely on prayer, the force of will, and a corkscrew.

Pah. Sprouts are a perfectly respectable winter vegetable and get eaten at Christmas because back before we could fly beans in from Kenya, they were the only green veg around at this time of year, unless you count leeks, though I reckon they should have a place in a Christmas dinner too.

But anyway sprouts are tasty. Especially curried.

You forgot to include an option for those of us who like sprouts but not Christmas, so I refrained from voting. You do have to get good fresh ones and cook them carefully, which makes them much easier for a single person dining alone than someone preparing Xmas dinner for a crowd, plus I get organic veg which improves the flavour.
