Escaping to the far north

It's too hot again. Wimbledon is also crawling with tennis weirdos, in addition to all the football supporters. Time to escape. Tomorrow morning I fly out to Helsinki and then onwards to stranger lands for about two weeks.

Am hugely looking forward to seeing lovely isobell again, and meeting her husband, and we're going to Lumous and then they're showing me around Turku. Yay! Also looking forward to seeing livredor in Stockholm. And then doseybat and myself will brave the northern wilderness. I'm absolutely terrified and thrilled at the prospect of driving all the way to the very northern tip of Europe. I've not driven anywhere in years. This is madness. It's going to be absolutely wonderful.

I like the way you have those blue plane/train/bus/boat/car icons. I think that's a neat idea.

You don't know how long it took me to make all those little icons. They're so small and fiddly and everything. Am very pleased with how they came out. Glad you like! :)

Oh, wow, that looks like so much fun! The only place I've been out of all those is Stockholm, and I can thoroughly recommend it. Have a bouncy shiny fantastic time! :)

I travelled through Stockholm last summer, but only very briefly, and yes it is very nice. I hope to actually have a good look around this time. Anything the Java Pixie recommends as unmissable on a visit there? *wonders*

Ooh, yes, I recommend Gamla Stan (the old town, full of touristy things) and also Skansen, which is this big open-air museum-cum-zoo. And if you have money to burn, there is an Absolut Vodka Ice Bar (http://europeforvisitors.com/europe/countries/sweden/stockholm-ice-bar.htm), which is made entirely of ice and you get to go in and wear funky furry clothes and drink cocktails from glasses made of ice while waving at a webcam of the other ice bar in Finland. It's so cool, literally! ;)

There's a London Absolut Ice Bar right here at home, you know. ;) And when I reach Kiruna, theres the site of the infamous Ice Hotel. It will at thie time of year be a big puddle, which is a shame. :/
