Feeling Gloomy
Jun. 25th, 2006 03:24 pmWhat was going to be a relaxing empty weekend suddenly turned very full, in some very nice ways indeed, so I’m not complaining. *grins*. Friday saw a unexpected yet very welcome visit from my sweetie
cassielalone and there was lots of snuggling. Plus last night I found what is now my new favourite London club, amusingly named Feeling Gloomy. A genius idea of playing all the songs with very gloomy lyrics and bouncy tunes, and it so works. And the goths haven’t found it yet. Wheeeeeeeee!
taimatsu invited me along, and
beingjdc kindly put us on the guest list, and we were joined in our gloomy bouncing by
verlaine,
the_alchemist and
robert_jones. There was much silliness, including Live Gloom, an air-guitar band who come onstage and mime to a few songs, and also the incredible amusement that is
beingjdc in a grim reaper costume. Heh! *smallsmiles* Despite the name of the club we enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed right until the utter end, something I’ve not done at a club for a very very long time. Pretty sunrise as I got home. Always a good thing. So yay for finding a new place to go out! *bounces*
This week is the week of Central St Martin’s Degree Show, where all the final year students exhibit their bizarre creations to the poor unsuspecting public. Yesterday while I was waiting to meet
taimatsu,
huggyrei and
telpher for lunch, I thought I’d have a look for myself. Some of it wasn’t bad at all, and there was some I really adored (Alice in Wonderland Fashion clothes!), most was bizarre and there was some I really didn’t understand at all. Obviously a lot of talent here, but it was merely a temple of utter pretentiousness, with some pretty bits. The building itself is so strange and labyrinthine it was difficult to distinguish the some of the art installations from the structure of building itself, if indeed there is a difference. My head was reeling. Some really nice ideas, like a room of audio feedback, or the infinity room covered in numbers with the poor student slowly covering them up with coloured stickers. But then the aaargh of many inevitable exhibitionist photos and videos of the artist naked while doing something very strange. Again and again and again. WHY? And then more and more rooms of more art horrors and pretties. All the students had left notebooks by their exhibits for visitors to comment on their work, although at first I thought the notebooks part of the exhibition itself, and thought it strange that every student has a notebook to exhibit and that these were some meta-exhibit I didn’t understand, until I twigged they were for comments, so I left a comment by
stompyfairy‘s strange sculptures. Anyway, go see for yourselves. This week only! *nods*
Mmmmm I really need to finalize plans for the big Scandinavia holiday today *nod nod*. It’s snuck up on me, and yay I fly out on Friday morning for nice people, pretty castles, a festival and lots of arctic wasteland. Wheeeeeee! So looking forward to it lotsly. I owe many of you emails so expect a flurry of industrious activity from me. It’s almost all sorted now, and it’s going to be wonderful. I am bouncing with excitement! Yay! No feeling gloomy here (except I’m miffed that Sweden got knocked out of the football. Wah!) *plot plan*
