RIP Ivy 1999-2006
Today is not a good day. After weeks of no sign of life, I’ve finally had to admit that my favorite plant, Ivy Hedera Helix is no longer living. Dead. Deceased. No more. *sigh*
I’m fond of plants (as anyone who’s witnessed my tree-hugging rampages would tell you *nods*), but this one was special. Ivy was a survivor and indestructible. Or so I thought. Bought for me as a present 7 years back while I was a student in Cambridge, Ivy then was centimetres high in a tiny tub. Most of my plants only survive a few months. Little was I to know back then what this one had in store. A rapid grower, she had to be re-potted twice into ever larger tubs. At her maximum size she reached an impressive size of several metres long, and was slowly taking over the house. She had several setbacks, including accidents with candles and not getting on with moving house very well, often losing all her leaves and being close to death on a couple of occasions, requiring me to intensively care and look after her and nurse her back to greenness and happiness. Her ivy has given me many garlands to put on my head for prettiness, and I cut several long strands that time for the Bacchae. So you can see I’ve grown quite close to my Ivy. Sadly, she was living in the kitchen when the cooker met big flamey death, and was covered in soot. Despite a nice warm shower and pruning afterwards, she never really recovered from that, and my worst fears came true when she slowly died on me. I’m distraught and I’ve run out of words. *sobs*
Please write me silly / funny things to cheer me up! *nod* *nod*

(I had an ivy once too; I could only make it last for a couple of months.)

She has gone to ivy heaven
Where the soil is softest loam
And the sunlight's always gentle
And she feels like she's come home
And although she'll always miss you
And regret you had to part
She'll tell all the other green things
Of your kind green-fingered heart.
