Ahem.
140205. Just feel the angst!! (and it isn't even February yet...) *fears*
Talking of angst, I saw a lot of goths last night.
snow_leopard's lovely sister is in town, and we descended like a bundle of kittens upon the Dev, which predictably was full of goths. And more goths. And also a
bad_faery and a
glenndm and Emily. And they are fab, please always remind me that I know lots of fab people, who despite my struggling plans to become a social hermit this year, I should see more often. After the usual "chocolate guinness" we landed in the Thai Vegan Buffet place (opposite Super Bowl noodle), and this was a culinary revelation for me. *Gorgeous* vegan food. Plate-lickingly nice. And all-you-can-eat as well, so...er...we did exactly that. Bits that looked like meat, and tasted like meat, in heavenly thai sauces, but um actually vegan nice goodness. If all vegan food was like this (which I know it isn't...) I'd be an instant convert. Absolutely must go back there. Is so nice. And so cheap too! *lickslips*
I left the others and ventured out on a mission to find more goths. And being Camden, there are no shortage.
devalmont is guitarist for Kreuzdammer, who played their first gig at the Purple Turtle last night. Industrial style EBM with guitars, or something. Very impressive, both to listen to and as a visual performance (with the laser of dooooooooom!) - expect much good things from them in the future. Totally blew raspberries at the headline band. Great to see
_ebb_ was there as groupie, looking pretty as usual, and I found a
random_goth hiding in a cute little bundle with his mysterious Finn E at the back. Oh, and I batted my lashes at the lovely
euphuistica until she nancy-boyed me up with eyeliner and lipstick. Vain, me? *prettysmile*
I've got the afternoon off work today! Yaaaaaaaaay! I will be preparing being a chauvinistic idiot for Lysistrata tomorrow, and seeing if I can come up with a good costume. Am very excited. *bounce*

Date: 2005-01-28 02:49 pm (UTC)Can we just bypass mid-february and head straight for the Easter chocolate fest?
Nope
Date: 2005-01-28 02:54 pm (UTC)Also kind of hoping my hol to Holland with Laura is going to happen. Will end up seeing Tanzwut a couple of times and meeting them to if things go according to plan.
Re: Nope
Date: 2005-01-28 02:59 pm (UTC)As far as getting out of German goes - go get OUT all you need is the phrase:
Wo ist der Flughafen, bitte?
(oh and possibly enough to understand their answer!!!)
Re: Nope
Date: 2005-01-28 03:02 pm (UTC)By the time Rob came out of his tent they were talking to me in English :-)
But thanks, I just wish I was better at languages as learning German would be a good thing for me to do.
Re: Nope
Date: 2005-01-28 03:16 pm (UTC)Oh Ich verstehe nicht (I don't understand) and Sprechen sie English? (Do you speak English?) are also useful.
Re: Nope
Date: 2005-01-28 03:22 pm (UTC)Main problem I had with my German was accidentally ordering 3 drinks at M'era Luna for Alan and I. I thought of finding someone cute (not hard at the disco) to give the spare drink to, but in the end thought I'd just drink it myself.
I know about 10-20 phrases of German and was really struggling to learn more. It didn't help that life / studying / applying for jobs kept getting in the way.

Date: 2005-01-28 04:47 pm (UTC)Hmmm, I think I'll stick to the Jagermeister unless I can find some of that gorgeous stuff that was like a black forrest gateaux only liquidised.

Date: 2005-01-28 04:56 pm (UTC)Now if the person had given me 5 pints of Biddenden thats abother matter :-) Though what I'd be capable of doing after drinking that is anyone's guess.

Date: 2005-01-30 11:26 am (UTC)Mind you, I've sing lots of oratorio arias these days, so I'd probably be able to say helpful things like, "For love my Saviour now is dying." (I'm Jewish.) Nope, "ein bier, bitte" is probably more useful.
Of course vegan food is delicious! All food is only as good as the person cooking it, so if you've had someone who was a bad cook and generally unimaginative doing vegan food, then yes, it wouldn't have been that exciting. Yup, you end up without hard cheeses (at least you can get decent fake Parmesan and fake cream cheese, though), but it does depend on your priorities. Oh yes, and fake cheese sauces are pretty easy, too. Hmm, I now have a craving to make lasagne. To be more precise, I have a craving to eat lasagne. I'm not sure I can be bothered cooking it. Damn, I hate those moments. I've also been getting urges to make strudel, which is simpler. Maybe I have some kind of desire to make a layered dish involving some sort of wheat product which is then baked? And could someone explain why?
Re: Nope
Date: 2005-01-28 03:03 pm (UTC)Mind you I'd learnt Wo ist der Barnhoff? for my first trip over there.

Date: 2005-02-06 10:21 pm (UTC)Again was good to meet you - I found it far too loud to talk properly there. Hopefully I'll get to talk to you at a quieter location sometime - most likely in Cambridge, as thats where we both seem to visit a lot. ;)

Date: 2005-02-06 10:32 pm (UTC)By the way, I've just discovered how talented Nini is. I always assumed her icon was from a Henry Clarke / Aubrey Beardsley illustration but it seems it is actually by the fair lady herself. *is impressed*
I'd tell her directly but it is far nicer to randomly come accross a compliment when you least expect it elsewhere.
:-)

Date: 2005-02-06 11:21 pm (UTC)Nini's pretty art is one of the many reasons I love her so much. She's taking her portfolio to the Slade College of Fine Art on Friday, and with luck they will give her a place there. :)
