Meh! Can I go back to bed for 4 years? Today I got up and felt very sad for the world. I could really do with a hug right now. *shivers*

You know, it might be a good thing if the UK actually became the 51st state of the USA, rather than the current facade that we pretend we're not. By my reckoning, we’d get a whole 93 Electoral College votes (how are these things calculated?). And hopefully we have enough people here with brains to be able to think about who they vote for. Which would mean 93 Electoral Collage votes for sanity. That would come in handy on days like this. I wonder if the pros of that voting power are worth the cons of being subject to all those horrible federal laws. *ponders*

Of course If I ruled the world none of this horribleness would have ever happened. If I was in charge everyone would be nice to each other, and there would be lots of chocolate. *maniacalsmile*

I look at it this way: it's only another 4 years. And then it will be someone new. And there are no more generations of Bushes that are ready to leap into the race just yet.

The world survived the last four years; I think it can survive another four.

To be honest, I don't think Kerry would have been much of an improvement. At least with Bush we already have some idea of how he'll try to screw over the world.

I'm having a hard time getting worked up about the election to be honest. I have too much to worry about in my life right now, such as the meeting I have with my boss in an hour and a half over why my job gives me nervous breakdowns on a yearly basis. I've thrown up with nerves five times since getting up an hour ago, and there was blood in it every time. Excuse me if I'm disinterested in events several thousand miles away that don't actually make any real difference to our lives one way or another.

Jeb Bush?

As Governor of Florida, Jeb is next in line to the Whitehouse I would suggest. Should GWB win the Whitehouse, I strongly suspect Jeb will succeed him.

Yes, that's my fear too.

I'm pessimistically convinced that as long as the Republicans can continue to spin on the War on Terror (and it shouldn't be too difficult - the more people die as a result of US actions in the Arab world, the more terrorists there will be), they will remain in government in all four of its bodies. And we could have a Bush in power for another twelve years... dear God.

I thought we were supposed to be the ones with the hereditary head of state, but obviously I was wrong!

With whom? He has joint interests with Putin (bar minor disruptions like Georgia and maybe Ukraine refusing to let Russia pick their leaders for them and looking to the US to back them up) and the current Chinese leadership are far too pragmatic to enter any serious confrontation as long as their pride isn't bruised openly over Taiwan. Neither government is interested in nuclear brinkmanship with the USA any more.

Local nuclear exchanges involving the likes of India, Pakistan, Iran, North Korea and Israel are possible, but the real point of nukes for a small state is as blackmail / bargaining chips. North Korea, for instance, periodically waves the nuclear sabre about in the hope of further bribes and concessions from the rest of the world (desperately necessary in a cumbersome totalitarian state with a broken economy that can't even feed itself) to make them quiet again for a while.

He _won't_ invade North Korea, because they _have_ got the Bomb.

I think the most likely nuclear scenario is a detonation in some major city amongst the participants in the War on Targets. From a personally selfish POV I hope they go for New York before London.
