Quiet weekend
Oct. 11th, 2004 12:12 amNice relaxing weekend at home for the first time in....oh I don’t know how long. Far far too long. Notable good bits:
A lovely long relaxing herbal bath, soothing my poor finger and reading Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.
Eating nothing but Chinese food. Ate Chinese at home on Friday and Saturday, and this evening
doseybat and
compilerbitch and their lovely friend Silvia popped over and took
snow_leopard and myself out to dinner. At the local Chinese. The yummy all-you-can-eat place with added bonus of Jelly and Icecream included!
Finding the local pub is serving Bavarian Real Ale for 149p a pint. A very good thing.
Locating a 1910 edition of Boltzmann’s Principe der Mechanik (yes, in German) in the same pub, and finding it contains all kinds of interesting stuff about Solar Systems Dynamics within. An odd book for a pub to have, but it was a find as far as I’m concerned. Described the concept of partial differentiation to
snow_leopard. Also found a book full of 1960s Mathematics O-level exam papers. They look harder than the current A-levels. No surprises there, then.
Going on a shopping spree in Central London to cheer myself up, bought sparkly CDs, pretty graphic novels, books (Beowulf, Lolita, I Capture the Castle) and Powerpuff Girls the Movie on DVD.
Flopping in front of TV watching Powerpuff Girls the Movie. I admit to liking it. Housemates all now disown me.
Submitting the initial online application for a new passport. Now have to wait for the form to be sent back to me. However, the process has now started, which is good.
compilerbitch handing me a bag containing lots of mysterious items, which one of you should recognise. Theres a sparkly bubble-gun, some Hello Kitty chopsticks, sparkly bangles, a photo in a Hello Kitty frame, and an even older photo, and lots of other stuff. *giggles* What should I do with them, sweetie? (the photos are cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!!)
Drinking hot chocolate made with hot milk, real chocolate, and quality greek brandy. For the ultimate in drinks that make me feel all warm and snuggly inside.

Date: 2004-10-10 04:48 pm (UTC)David is quite a Powerpuff Girls fan; he has a Buttercup cushion and a Bubbles doll that he tucked up on the bed next to me last night. :-)

I suspect I'll get disowned even further if I start collecting the dolls and cushions. That won't stop me. *plot* *plot*

Last weekend,
Beyond that, I know nothing.

Date: 2004-10-11 04:16 am (UTC)Still, scary.
How *old* must those photos be?!?! I hope I get the chance to see and burn them!
Re: ?
Date: 2004-10-11 11:33 am (UTC)I'm going all paternal. Oh dear.
You are not burning them. I know you want to, but I will stop you with sharp pointy claws if necessary.

Date: 2004-10-11 11:34 am (UTC)'Splanation
Date: 2004-10-11 02:45 am (UTC)But it would be rude to throw them away and we felt we knew someone who might like them very much.
The Hello Kitty stuff was ours, not Vals, but we've not used it and felt we shouldn't take it with us. Beautiful logic that - we had room for four unicycles but had to ditch the chopsticks.
Hope it makes you happy. You got Bat and Sarah goodness and we didn't - meeep.
Love
Penny

Date: 2004-10-11 05:07 am (UTC)I am still pretty ill today, actually -- fresher's flu, most likely, just like most of the population of Cambridge, it seems. Wurgh.
Re: 'Splanation
Date: 2004-10-11 11:38 am (UTC)Get well soon :)
Odd, I'm usually very susceptible to colds and flu, and many people at work and friends have gone down with the evil flu over the past week or so, and so far I've been immune. Which makes me wonder when I'll get it.
