I've now reached Tallinn, after many adventures along the way....Yay!!! The hostel here has a free internet terminal I can use for 30 minutes so I can come online for a quick update! :)
*eeeep* this estonian keyboard is dead wierd.....everything is in the wrong place and theres odd symbols on lots of keys. erkkkkk
I have LOTS to say and lots of tales to tell, and they will all be told in good time, but just the best and worst bits for now. Stumbling upon lots of wonderful may eve and may day celebrations in Tampere and St Petes was fab, the Hermitage is just *incredible*, but the best delight has been the Idiot Cafe in St Petes - a romantic little cellar cafe with a 19th century charm which words will not do justice but I've been having small orgasms over. Wooooo. Was lovely to catch up with
alektoeumenides again, who's been nothing short of wonderful. Thank you, dearie.
Disasters include killing my feet totally on my first day in St petes - looking at the map I must have walked easily over 15km and lots of blisters was the evil result of this walking enthusiasm *eeeeep*. Feet are slowly recovering now, thankfully. Also, there was no room for me on the train to Tallinn, so I had to take the coach instead - so I spent last night being bumped around on a little winding potholed road through the deepest forest over the Russian-Estonian border, and getting no sleep at all. Arrived in Tallinn to get my debit card eaten by the first cash machine (fortuneately I have a spare!) Today will be a battle to stay awake. Estonian money is funny, it has "Eesti pank" written on it in large letters which makes me smirk lots.
Off go and explore the delights of Tallinn now. Wheeeeeeeeeeee. *bounce*

Date: 2004-05-13 02:52 pm (UTC)I was so pleased just to see you again your state didn't really matter - i'd think you wonderful even if you were a vegetable. But then I'm a little bit odd. Thanks ever so much for helping with ordering tickets in Russian and whatnot - I would have been very lost otherwise. I had quite some misadventures in language after you left...*oooops*.
I even found the source of all "spanks" - wandered past a massive building in Tallinn just outside the old town, with EESTI PANK in large letters all over it - i burst into giggles. Ooops.
Well ok, this is hypocritical but...
Date: 2004-05-13 12:15 pm (UTC)This the girl who hasn't posted in aaaaaaaaaages, not even about the weekend or the photos...but hell, it wasn't as stupendously exciting for me as it was for you :) How was Tallinn, Helsinki? TELL US!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please? With sugar and cream on top?

Date: 2004-05-13 02:47 pm (UTC)Have patience, sweetie. Writeup should be on its way if I pull a late night tonight and get it all online. :)
I've been incredibly dead each evening after work - got back very late on sunday, monday and tuesday I flopped early to bed, and yesterday Emily invited me to Rose's place for wine and film and candles and celtic thingies, and this evening I've finally finished *unpacking*. Whew! Everything got back safely, including the poster for your mum - not tried the MP3 player yet, but I'll look into getting that fixed this weekend.
Yes, you're a hypocrite, dearie - get writing yourself!
