Pretty flowers!
Mar. 7th, 2004 11:10 pmSpring is here! *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* (although I fear
gnimmel squeezed in first with the spring bounce). We have daffodils flowering all over the house and this makes me very happy. More are flowering across the road in the graveyard. This cheered me up lots, as I'd been very upset a couple of weeks back when I thought the frost had killed off all the graveyard flowers, which didn't look at all happy covered in snow. But some have survived and are now basking happily in the sun. It's very pretty.
On Saturday I went to see more flowers at Kew Gardens with
snow_leopard and
arkady - this is by far the best time of year to go - the gardens are covered in landscaped vistas of pretty little flowers everywhere - it was an explosion in colour everywhere we looked. We'd gone mainly to see the Orchid Festival there. Orchids all over the place in every colour imaginable - for an Orchid lover like me this was pure bliss -
snow_leopard has some photos here but they do not do justice to the displays. Orchids are plants with a Legolas attitude - they happily sit there with the plant equivalent of a body language that says "Look at how pretty I am!" and let everyone admire them. We also found the "Margaret Thatcher" Orchid and a pink and fluffy one that Catt and Arkady decided was a "fluffymark" Orchid but which I protested wasn't. I'm sure I don't smell sweetly of raspberries, even if i'd like to. We then had a few pints at the dev and a delightful chinese meal. I got home and had the most fun ever by flirting outrageously with
evil_nick and
mirabehn online, who I'm hoping will try and snog me next time I see them. Once I get them tipsy enough, anyway. *smallsmile*
I need a new black satin duvet cover for my bed!! My old one isn't really big enough for my bed, and I've bought a bigger duvet, but need to find a cover that will go with my black satin sheets and pillows. Sadly after a full day of trawling lots of shops in London, I could find no double black satin duvet covers in stock anywhere (some places claim they do them, but had none currently in stock. Gah!). Will keep hunting until I find one. Otherwise the days shopping was good - I bought a new CD tower and it's already filling up as that evil Fopp place was selling lots of CDs I wanted for a fiver each. Also braved the bookshops on Charing Cross again, and this time there was no scary person in there and I found nice guides to Finland and Estonia.
Forbidden Planet was next - how I love that place, an endless series of distractions by pretty things, I kid you not. I could have spent lots and lots in there with no effort whatsoever, but was good this time and left only with Neil Gaiman's "Endless Nights". I then headed for the pub, and upon arrival was hugattacked by Emily and Emily, who I've not seen in months. Upon seeing my new Sandman book it was decided it was Story Time, and Emily nicely plonked herself on my lap and we decided parts and had a quick impromptu readthrough of the book in the corner of the pub, with me getting given all the girlie parts. Wheeee. It's a most amazing book that made be both very happy and deeply sad reading it. There was then rather too much flirting and tickling to be mentioned here. La la laaa.
We are planning a mass theatre trip to the Globe to see women in corsets snogging each other senseless in the all female cast version of Much Ado about Nothing on June 20th. Tickets £5 standing. Come along!!!! It will be fun. Catt wants to book tickets on Tuesday lunchtime so tell me quickly if you want to join us.
