An insight into my booklife - questions taken from the book devourer known as [livejournal.com profile] marnameow. Please steal these questions and answer them yourself!

What are you currently reading?

The History of Prostitution - George Ryley Scott. This was a lovely present from [livejournal.com profile] doseybat and [livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch and I'm finding the chapter on temple prostitution fascinating.

How long have you been reading it (or them)? How much longer do you think it will take you to read it?

Am reading it in bits and pieces while commuting. Started it on Monday and will certainly finish it tomorrow.

Is it a gobble-in-one-session sort of book, or a read slowly through book, or a pick a page at random now and then book?

It'd do your head in to read it in one go - it's a read though slowly book really, but could be dipped into.

Do you ration books and force yourself to read them slowly? What books have you done this with recently?

Only graphic novels, as they are very quick to read otherwise and because I like to prolong the suspense between chapters to mimic as if i was reading it comic by comic, as it's supposed to be read. So I ration myself to one or two chapters at a time. Most recent was Gloomcookie

Do you sometimes *wish* that you'd rationed a book when you get to the end of it?

I read an entire C++ book in one session last autumn, which did my head in. Mainly because I understood almost all of it. Erk.

What was the last book you bought?

Brave new world - Aldous Huxley. Been meaning to read it for ages, and very glad I did.

Do you know what book you're going to buy next?

Want to explore Huxley's other writings, so it's going to have to be Point Counterpoint. Plus I'm sure something by Kafka. Or has anyone got any recommendations of what I would like?

How many borrowed books are sitting on your shelves?

Lesbian Sex - JoAnn Loulan (borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] snow_leopard)
The new Hite Report - Shere Hite (also from [livejournal.com profile] snow_leopard)
The new Good Vibrations guide to sex - Winks & Semans (which I believe belongs to [livejournal.com profile] mrph)

Hmmmm. See, I told people they didn't belong to me!

When will they get given back?

Hopefully soon, before they cause any more embarrassment. *giggles*

How many books of yours are currently on other people's shelves?

[livejournal.com profile] snow_leopard is borrowing Kafka's The Trial and Waugh's Vile Bodies.

When do you expect them to return?

Quickly, as [livejournal.com profile] snow_leopard is an evil book fiend who gobbles books! :)

A new wood will appear!! Lots of friendly trees. Thankyou to those of you wonderful people who sponsored me in last summers LOTR readthrough! [livejournal.com profile] mirabehn recently informed me that we collected lots and lots of money and much of this was donated to the Woodland Trust and a grand total of 55 new happy trees will be planted because of people being generous and this gives me a happy warm fuzzy feeling inside. Yay! :)
