Still here...
Jul. 17th, 2003 02:40 amDearie me, I've been a little too rushed off my feet to update this recently. From out of nowhere I've suddenly acquired a social life. Odd how these things come and go. So I'm not going to describe everything that has happened. Most unexpectedly, even though I knew about it (but hadn't actually been directly invited), I ended up attending a Wedding on Saturday.

The lovely
reddragdiva and
redcountess were wed in Walthamstow registry office, accompanied by a cohort of goths and a few comedy moments. It was very much an event, and not quite how i expected, as I've never attended a registry office wedding before. Afterwards was cake and champagne at the pub. Having had only 2 hours sleep (blame B-Movie and then an odd decision that 4am is a good time to start coding) I doubt I managed great conversation with anyone, but I recall talking with
arkady about homosexual/transsexual marriage rights,
ali_anarres about poi and geekery, and
cyberneph about lots of things. And....lots and lots of people.
I had to then quickly hug everyone and disappear early to dress up for the Medieval Banquet. I went as a princess (what else?) and wore a lovely velvet dress with lace-up ribbons and tied a couple of plaits in my hair at the back. Pity there are no photos (except ones right at the very end of the evening which I will deny all knowledge of!!) as I was very pleased with the result. The Banquet was totally inauthentic, and was purely medieval style, but despite that setback was blissful fun. Set in the old cellars within St Katherine's dock by the Tower of London, we were transported back in time to a very mocked up court of King Henry VIII. I really enjoyed myself (although, the unlimited alcohol may have contributed to this) and hope to do similar again sometime.
Sunday was too hot. I melted and died horribly. Apologies to
ali_anarres for me not getting out of the house at all - give me a shout next time you go swinging poi somewhere when it's a little less sunny and I'll do my best to join you! Staying in the house made me accidentally break
snow_leopard's poor computer Elvira. Windows died and has only been resurrected by a horrendous fudged patch of booting up the vital system files and registry from one drive, then switching to another drive and booting the rest of windows from there. It really shouldn't be working, but somehow it is.
St James Park was the picnic venue on Monday evening. Trees. Lots and lots and lots of trees. Shade is good. Shade is my friend. It was Pennie V's birthday and going flop by the lake in the shade was an ideal way to wind down after the evil heat of the afternoon. It was lovely to catch up with a few people I'd not seen in a little while. More picnics. I demand more picnics! :)
The Cruxshadows are a good show-band. They know how to work an audience, and keep them interested. I've seen them a couple of times before, and this gig was little different, excepting the songs had been pretentiously arranged around the Trojan war myths. The lead-singer-of-the-pineapple-hairstyle did his trademark look-at-me trick of wandering in, through, around and behind the audience, dancing with people and dragging them up on stage with him. Awwww, bless. Still, it's effective and it made for a damn good gig.
alektoeumenides fed me lunch again on Tuesday (I swear that she makes me put on a kilo just by breathing at me), so I'm now even heavier. Lovely to see you sweetie - I think my weight problems will be solved if you keep on like this all summer! :)
Danced outside in the cooling rain on Wednesday. I'm a happy bunny now. It's now humid and icky and sweaty, but at least it's not just plain overbearingly hot. Of course, we chose the day that rains to go to the Outdoor Theater in Regent's Park for Shakespeare's Two Gentlemen of Verona. Luckily, rain stopped before the play, and we were treated to a magical performance which has gotten me in a most romantic mood right now (be warned!) and I'm currently very happy and content with life.
