Scandinavia holiday ideas

I’ve been mentioning my Norway idea for months now, so it’s about time I did something about it. At the same time isobell has been prodding me quite severely to try and get to Lumous goth festival in Finland. Hence, a quick and nasty plan has begun to form, and now I’m splatting down a few ideas before I lose track of everything. Don’t mind me.

30 June Fly to Helsinki, Finland. Late afternoon train to Tampere. Meet isobell and friends and do the goth thing.
1 July In Tampere with more of those dreadful goths. How will I cope?
2 July End of Lumous. Travel to Turku with isobell.
3 July Day in Turku.
4 July Ferry to Stockholm, Sweden. Hopefully a chance to see livredor.
5 July Day in Stockholm. Train north to Kiruna.
6 July Train north to Narvik, Norway.
7 July Bus north to Tromsø.
7-9 July Hire a car and drive around the north. Maybe reach Nordkapp! Exciting!
9/10 July Fly to Oslo.
10 July Day in Oslo. Hopefully meet wunderbaum.
10/11 July Fly back to London.

Yes, it’s absurd. But that’s the point! Although any advice would be most welcome, as I don’t want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere!

I would love to see you, and there should be no problem with putting you up. I'm not massively on top of diarying at the moment, but if you're passing through Stockholm I'll blatantly rearrange things if need be.

I do like the absurdity of that travel plan, I really do.

I've been looking more at timings and the like, and current top plan is to take the day ferry from Turku to Stockholm on the 4th July, so I'll be arriving early evening. So we can have dinner, and I can sleep in a corner at yours, and then I've got most of the next day in Stockholm, catching the 5pm night train to Kiruna (which takes seemingly forever to get there, but Sweden is *huge*).

It is absurd. Oh my, it's really going to happen isn't it? I'm really going to do this!

What are the chances of you being there around that time? Or will you have disappeared off to the Taiwan of your dreams by then?

My digital camera will be my friend with me. I have a sneaky feeling that making everyone jealous is one of my reasons for doing it, but I'm trying not to admit it.

It does make me wonder why most people don't do things like this. Maybe I'm just strange.

*nods* I'm basically in London when you're visiting (except the first weekend, when I'm in Trowbridge, but you seem to be invading Cambridge then anyway), so we should easily be able to find a time. I'm sure we both have many adventures to tell. :)

Ach! Not Taiwan, but I'm heading to the west of Norway to attend a wedding just about then. If I hurrrry home I MIGHT make it!!

But! You have to see Lofoten (Vesterålen). Narvik etc isn't as interesting. Lofoten is the most.... Words fail me..... You must see it. *bouncebounce*!!

I have thought about it and its looking like a yes. The Germany festival isnt really happening; I have always wanted to see northern Europe; cash is less of a problem atm; good timing after Sarah going 21 June.

Meeting you at Thomsthingy would work; it should be one of the weekends with a couple of days round it but not including 5 July as I am going to Hampton Corst Flower Show.

Methinks the ones you are thinking of (points at this one) are from Angel's Egg. Which may be called something else somewhere, or something. And I don't think is out on DVD here, sadly, as it is very pretty.
