Update from Moscow
Dec. 26th, 2004 11:30 pmSo, Christmas in Russia has been very good. If a little odd. We prepared a proper Christmas dinner, with some unusual but very nice cheese and bacon stuffing inside the chicken, and Val's friend Annette joined us for the eating of a veritable feast. With vodka, of course, and swedish mulled wine. After dinner, we went shopping!!! On Christmas Day! The Gorbushka Market is close to Val's flat, and we headed there, and so many huge crowds of people. Last saturday before new year is the busiest shopping day of the year in Russia, and not christmas for them. Felt very odd to be shopping *on* Christmas day. In the evening we went out to a bar to see a band, and I suprised myself muchly by liking them. Spent the time there predicting a revolution in the Ukraine (which appears to be the only thing on the news here, besides the sad news of the Tsunami in asia).
I have immense trouble getting up in the mornings - still not adjusted for time difference, so here I don't feel awake until noon at least! Waaaah! This is not good at all. Even worse tragedy is that the huge thaw going on - temperature reached +4C today, so the huge piles of snow have been turning into very large puddles. *sobs* There also needs to be a word for when the snow piled up on a sloping roof decides it has thawed enough to suddenly avalanche down en masse off the roof and land on the poor head of whoever is unfortunate enough to be walking in the wrong spot at the time. Hopefully it'll get cold again soon and there will be more snow. *fingerscrossed*
Today has been a day for present shopping, so some lucky ones of you should expect nice gifts when I return *smallsmiles*. The evil cash machine decided I wanted my money out in 100 rouble notes (not worth a lot), and my poor wallet is bulging with hundreds of the things. Gah! And theres even a Hello Kitty shop very close to here, how very very dangerous! *temptation*
Tomorrow I face the task of getting my visa registered. Which doesn't sound like fun. Erk.
I'm having difficulty reading my email from here, sadly. The internet connection here is so flaky even skim-reading livejournal will be an feat of patience. Anything you think I should read you should point me to in a comment from this post. If something is particularly urgent, sent me a text message. Thank you all, and I miss you all muchly. Especially a certain one of you.
